The Moonee Valley Ecological Connectivity Plan

Updated: Sep 30, 2020

Zoe Lum

The Moonee Valley Ecological Connectivity plan is a collaborative effort between Eco Logical Australia Pty Ltd (ELA) and Moonee Valley City Council (MVCC), Melbourne, Australia. The plan will contribute to the commitments of the ‘Urban Ecology Strategy and Actions’ and ‘Moonee Valley 2040’, which is a long-term strategy to improve the liveability of the city and guiding the future development and Council’s service delivery and planning processes. The LEC lab is leading the application of the GAP CloSR decision-support tool (General Approach to Planning Connectivity from Local to Regional Scales) to model the movement of wildlife within remnant urban green spaces.

This research will assess: Where are areas are sensitive to losses in connectivity and which have greater resilience? ; Which groups of species are under threat from losing connectivity (little redundancy in connectivity network), which can’t be helped (no connectivity) and which are fine (lots of redundancy)? ; How and where can connectivity be improved through conservation works?.
